Everyone holds menus. Nobody holds the record.

Thirteen regions, seven kinds of player. Delivery apps hold the freshest menus and will not publish them as a record. Aggregators and copycats publish undated scrapes. Website builders sell restaurants their own pages. Data companies sell trends to brands. The dated, sourced, machine-first menu with an official order path is unoccupied in every country; what differs is how crowded the ground around it is.

Start: India, then Canada

India is home, the corpus is deepest, the platforms will not publish a record, and copycats already prove the query demand. Canada is the tweet's own proof and Sirved shows discovery without provenance is the ceiling there.

Then: Middle East, Australia, UK, Latin America

Open or lightly contested, English or Arabic or Spanish, delivery-heavy, no record. Same playbook, new supply crawl.

Not first: US, Japan, Korea, China

The US is the biggest and the most built; enter it through Menuclature data, not pages. East Asia's platforms are the record in their languages already; entry needs local partners.

By countryPlayers, and why the record is still open there

● United States crowded

The most built market. Delivery platforms hold the freshest menus for ordering, Grubhub owns the two classic menu sites, Google shows menus and is what AI Mode reads, exact-match price sites take the chain queries, two B2B databases sell menu trends, an API sells menus to developers, and website builders sell restaurants their own SEO pages. Nobody publishes a dated, sourced, machine-first record with an official order path.

◐ Canada contested

Sirved is a real menu search engine born in Windsor, now covering North America, but it is discovery, not provenance. Delivery apps hold ordering menus. Exact-match sites own the chain queries, which is how Tim Hortons lost its own breakfast menu. No dated, sourced record; no subsite per restaurant.

◐ India contested on ordering, open on the record

Zomato and Swiggy hold menus for hundreds of thousands of restaurants and their menu pages rank for '<restaurant> menu', but they are ordering surfaces and will not publish a record that sends people elsewhere. Chain fact queries already go to Indian copycats. The long tail has no page at all. Home market, deepest corpus: the first market.

What this means for MenufiedFive things the crowd does not do

Date and source every menu

No aggregator or copycat shows when a menu was true or where it came from. Provenance is the whole product.

Send the order home

Every copycat is a dead end; every platform keeps the order. The official-channel button is why a brand claims the page instead of fighting it.

A page for every restaurant, unasked

Website builders serve the ones who pay. The long tail never buys; its subsite has to be generated.

Machine surfaces first

JSON-LD, menu.json, llms.txt, MCP, change feeds. The answer engines are the new front page and nobody is writing for them.

History

Versions and a price index. Only the B2B databases have history, and they sell it to brands, not to the public or to models.
